Yes, the baby may have a jolt if there is a crash, but in a rear facing car seat this is not a problem as long as they correctly strapped into the seat. The ISOFIX maxi cosi base was brilliant for us - I could drop the car seat into the base, and know it was properly fitted without worrying about strapping it in. Convenient as hell as well. HTH
Locate the Isofix connectors (two prongs sticking out of the back) on the child seat or base. Push the connectors into the Isofix slots in the car seat. I have no data but have sold my children's isofix seats and bases when they have grown out of them on gumtree or facebook marketplace etc. There is certainly a market as these seats are expensive bought new - I would, if possible, buy the first infant seat and base new, but would be more relaxed about 2nd hand seats for toddler age and beyond.
